Overview

Mixing vessels are very often used in productions for simple applications like:

  • Preparation of different solutions at room temperatures or with a slight heating
  • Extraction
  • Crystallization and recrystallization
  • Storing different solutions for further use

Design of the unit

Mixing vessels are in fact simplified reaction systems. A typical unit consists of the following parts:

  1. Jacketed or Non-jacketed vessel depending on the application
  2. Overhead stirrer with stirrer blades of a required shape
  3. Support frame (usually with wheels for mobility)
  4. Optional condenser (is needed when e. g. process is performed under heating)

Main advantages of glass mixing vessels

  1. Glass transparency allows to observe the process, which is especially crucial for applications like crystallization or dissolving
  2. Unit can be moved around the production easily thanks to compact design
  3. Fits perfectly for preparation for different solutions with further dosing directly to a bigger vessel by means of a liquid dosing pump

Some of the processes require heating, which requires the system to be equipped with a reflux condenser to prevent the vapors in the atmosphere of the working space. This is a standard option and can be easily ordered.

For Explosive areas/zones it is possible to order Ex-proof drives, antistatic coating for glassware etc.

It is also important to mention that mixing vessels can have either cylindrical or spherical shape. Spherical shaped vessels have a smaller main flange –DN300 or less, which is fine for many simple processes and helps to decrease the price of the unit.

Normag Systems is also capable to manufacture the system according to your specific requirements like a completely autoclavable mixing vessel.
