ASME Reactors

In North America, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) provides a standard for Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code to ensure that equipment meets safety and service life expectations. Glass-lined equipment is classified in ASME code Section VIII, Div. 1. and all Pfaudler equipment is built and marked in accordance with these requirements.

ASME RT series reactors

  • Characterized by a body flange: glass lined reactor in 2 parts consisting of a base vessel and a cover (head).
  • Designed for high internal vessel and jacket pressures
  • Handhole or manway (depending on size) comes with a fused sight glass and a protection ring
  • Available in sizes ranging from 5 gallons up to 500 gallons
  • The agitator is typically supplied as 1-piece or can be offered as 2- piece.
  • The conventional jacket is supplied with agitating nozzles to provide proper liquid circulation in the jacket.
  • Good for lower temperature applications
  • Supplied with INTERSEAL dry9000® sealing system.

The reactor must be in 2 pieces to allow access for the glassing operations.

ASME RS series reactors

  • Characterized as a 1-piece reactor, where the largest opening is the manway, which is off-set to allow for more nozzles on the head
  • Higher vessel resistance to pressure than RA style reactor
  • The manway comes with a fused sight glass and a spring-assisted cover that lifts easily, stays in open position and includes a protection ring
  • Available in sizes ranging from 300 gallons through 4,000 gallons as standard, larger available upon request, up to 15,000 gallons
  • Agitator can be supplied as 1-piece (RCI) or 2-piece where it enters the reactor body via the manway and is assembled inside, using Cryo-Lock technology.
  • Combines standard with a flange-mounted baffle (no stuffing box required), for easy assembly
  • Good for lower temperature applications
  • Supplied with INTERSEAL dry9000™ sealing system.

ASME RA series reactors

  • Characterized as a 1-piece reactor with a symmetrical top head layout
  • Drive nozzle is part of a large cover assembly, with a smaller manway opening
  • Manway comes with a spring-assisted cover that lifts easily, stays in open position and includes a sight glass and protection ring
  • Available in sizes ranging from 300 gallons through 4,000 gallons as standard, larger available upon request up to 15,000 gallons
  • Agitator most often supplied as 1-piece (RCI) or can be offered as 2-piece where it is assembled inside, using Cryo-Lock technology.
  • Conventional jacket is supplied with agitating nozzles to provide optimum liquid circulation in the jacket.
  • Supplied with INTERSEAL dry9000™ sealing system.

The ASME RA style reactors have traditionally been the most commonly used and many are still in operation today. They can easily be interchanged with the RS style reactors to allow for flexibility in top head layout and higher internal pressure requirements.
