Process Equipment for a Refinery in Bangladesh

Over the years GMM Pfaudler has diversified its capabilities, especially in the Heavy Engineering Division.
The Heavy Engineering Division provides design and production of equipment in critical sectors such as Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Fertilizers, Specialty Chemical and Pharmaceutical industries.
An oil and gas refinery in Bangladesh approached GMM Pfaudler with the need for process equipment for their new refinery “Clean Fuels Project (CFP) & Catalytic Reforming Unit (CRU)” project.
The refinery operation included the processing of natural gas condensate into domestic petroleum products as well as Diesel, Kerosene, Hi-Octane/petrol/motor spirit, and LPG. This process separates valuable distillates (Naphtha, Kerosene, Diesel) and atmospheric gas oil (AGO) from the crude feedstock. We received the requirement for process equipment such as pressure vessels and columns with internals for this project.
GMM Pfaudler worked closely with a technical consultant on this project. We invited the client to our factory in Karamsad, Gujarat to clarify all the technical queries concerning the project. Full support was extended to the client in terms of design and engineering, procurement, inspection, testing and finally supply of pressure vessels and columns with internals to meet the project requirement.
We also took mechanical warranty of all the equipment with Internals and hydraulic warranty of internals in the project scope with the assistance of a world leader in column internals.
Project Highlights
- Total 20 equipment were supplied: 4 columns with internals and 16 pressure vessels
- 10 equipment (7 pressure vessels and 3 columns) having NACE requirement as per NACE MR0103 and NACE MR0175
- Mechanical warranty of all the equipment with Internals and hydraulic warranty of internals were in GMM Pfaudler’s scope
- 4 columns were executed which included Naphtha Splitter, H2S Stripper, Water Stripper and Reformer Stabilizer. All with body flange joints for easy access to internals installation
- All columns were assembled at the GMM Pfaudler workshop, hydro tested, inspected, dismantled, and dispatched in pieces from GMM Pfaudler to refinery site
During order finalization, it was decided to deliver columns (having body flange joints) in pieces due to transportation limitations at the Refinery site.
A big challenge for GMM Pfaudler was to maintain alignment of long diameter columns as well as trial fit-up of internals. However, our team successfully performed a trial assembly of column Internals in presence of the client appointed TPIA (Third Party Inspection Agency).
Lastly, all equipment was dispatched within the contractual delivery date and installed successfully at the site. The refinery technical team confirmed efficient working of equipment at their site.
